The game
Play as Actors and influence the scenario created and directed by a Player who takes the role of the Director. Actors must work together in order to both advance their Characters' story Arcs while at the same time also trying to please an "insatiable" imaginary Audience in order to crank the viewership up or turn them into Fans! Better viewer ratings increase the Budget of the studio, which then allows Characters to become more powerful!
LDA! uses 2 types of dice, the Action and Risk dice. When a 4-6 is rolled, dice get activated! Action dice add 1 success and explode on 6s, while Risk dice cancel out successes from the Action dice. Exploding Action dice allow Characters to succeed against all odds with just one die... and a bit of luck! Action is always stronger than Risk!
In LDA! all Players act out and roll dice at the same time! Most Scenes are resolved in 1 roll (from each participant), and the outcome of each Player is determined separately. Characters NEVER FAIL! Even if the dice betray them, it should never look like "you swing and miss", it's more like "—with a thunk, you can feel a metallic surface underneath the skin... IT'S A CYBORG!"
LDA! is designed to be setting-agnostic, and its adaptive design further enhances the type of game you want to run! Mystery? Action? Drama? We've got it! Any story can be played, as long as you plan to have a movie studio and an Audience to watch it!
LDA! is a great choice for a group that loves improv acting and focusing more on cool, on-the-spot, dramatic scenes rather than strategy.
