Chapter 01

What do you need

Everything to bring to the table for your very first session.

  • Players
  • Game Master
  • Dice
  • Tokens
  • Game cards
  • Character sheet & pencil
  • Maps & miniatures (optional)

What you need · 01

Players

Daggerheart runs best with two to five players who are excited to collaborate and build a story together.

What you need · 02

Game Master

One player takes the role of the GM. You'll play the world as it responds to the players' actions.

What you need · 03

Dice

Daggerheart uses the full suite of polyhedral dice:

d4 d6 d8 d10 d12 d20 d100

You'll also need two d12 of different colours — your duality dice.

d12 Hope d12 Fear

As you level up you'll roll more dice, so it can help to bring an extra set or two.

What you need · 04

Tokens

Small objects that stand in for your character. Gather about seven per player to start — you won't need more than fifteen by level 10.

Make them unique per player: plastic gems, pennies, buttons, anything small.

What you need · 05

Game cards

You'll need ancestry, community, subclass and domain cards.

Maps & miniatures

Optional, but fun: use maps and miniatures to represent the scenes the players face — especially in battle — to bring the action to life.
